The Monroe Country Store is a great local food market and deli, located across the road from Town Hall. This family owned market offers the basic grocery items, produce, frozen foods, ice cream, dairy cooler, Cabot cheese, snacks, meats, baked goods, snacks, cooler drinks, beer, wine, household products, Mountain Grove Coffee (self serve carafes), cigarettes, NH Lottery tickets, and a selection of NH products. They also have Monroe Country Store shirts and caps for sale. There is also a full service deli counter with hot grill area offering sliced meats and cold salads and serving homemade and made to order foods including sandwiches, subs, burgers, soups, and grab & go food items such as cold salads, green salads, premade subs, and heat & serve dinners. I stopped in here recently and headed to the deli counter in the back of the store. I filled out a sub order form with customizations and gave it to the lady behind the deli counter. I ordered a 12" Cranberry Chicken Salad Sub ($7.99 plus tax) with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles, which was made to order and ready wrapped in plastic in 5 minutes. I paid for my sub at the front register. The sub was very heavy, a thick soft white sub roll filled up with lettuce, tomato slices, onions, and plenty of cranberry chicken salad (in a mayo dressing) topped with dill pickle chips. I enjoyed half of the sub in my car, which was very filling to eat, very good. I enjoyed the other half of the sub for lunch the next day. Next time I'm in this neck of the woods, I will have to stop in again and order one of their Spicy Western BBQ burgers with a Greek pasta salad.
